Community Nurses have a huge range of tasks, basically this is anything that happens in a patients home that needs the attentions of a qualified Nurse, rather than a friend, spouse or relative however dedicated and well meaning they may be. Some examples of what they do:-
Holt Drop-In clinic
As well as the regular home visiting, an extra service is provided in Holt where the Nurses hold a no appointment needed, drop-in clinic. This is from 10-12 am on the first Friday of each month. Anyone is welcome to attend for whatever reason they feel that it would help them to see a Nurse. This may be for routine matters, blood pressure checks, blood tests, wound care, checking blood sugar etc. etc. Even if you have a concern but don't feel that it is suffoicient to make an appointment with a Doctor. The Nurses will be happy to advise on what it is best to do. The only thing to bear in mind is that the Nurses only have such equipment with them that they can carry, so ifdealing with your problem requires use of any non-portable equipment (eg an examination couch) then it would be better dealt with at the Surgery. If you are uncertain if the drop-in clinic will be suitable then ask reception at the Surgery. They will be happy to help.

Patients at Farndon Health Center are lucky to have our excellent Community Nursing Team to help them if needed. We could not ask for a better team of Nurses. Perhaps more than any other profession in the Health Services, the community Nurses are greatly valued by their patients. Everyone who comes into contact with them is hugely impressed by the true dedication to giving people the best possible care frequently under difficult circumstances. The Nurses earn the true gratitude of their patients probably more than any other group.

The team consists of Sister Rob Gould. Senior Staff Nurse Judy McBride, Senior Staff Nurse Cheryl Williams Staff Nurse Jennifer Walsh and Nursing Auxiliary Sharon Dugdale.
Sharon also works for two sessions per week as the practice " Phlebotomist" or blood taker, this is quite independent of her role as Nursing Auxillary. Having Sharon as phlebotomist does however free up a lot of the Practice Nurses' time to devote to tasks that need the higher skills that they are trained to do.
