Drug and Alcohol Service

c
The community drug and alcohol service is available for anyone with a substance misuse problem, or any of their family members. If people really want to get of drugs or booze or both there is a great deal of help available. As well as support and councelling, cognitive behavioural therapy can help to lead you away from the thoughts and feelings that drive you to keep taking drugs regardless of the consequences, and to help you to understand some of the triggers that make you want to take drugs / alcohol.
For some people prescribed drugs can be useful to help during the initial withdrawl stages and later for maintainence to help you to avoid relapse. Whilst maintainence with Methadone or Subutex is helpful for some people, please do not just come along to get some free, legal methadone if you are stuck. This is not what the service is there for, and also it will not work. It is highly unlikely that anyone will be given a prescription at their first visit.
Where maintainance "replacement" treatment is prescribed, it is tightly controlled involving only collecting your tablets on a daily basis, supervision that you actually swallow it and regular urine tests to monitor that no other drugs are being taken.
I am telling you this now, not to try to frighten you away from the service, but to help you to know what to expect from the service as regards your treatment, and what you must do to keep your side of the treatment bargain.
The Drug and Alcohol Action Team (DAAT) is a partnership of organisations that works to co-ordinate and implement the National Drug Strategy in the County of Cheshire.
