CLOSE THIS POPUP What if I am unable to come to the surgery ? We feel that there probably will not be large numbers of people who are genuinely too ill or too disabled to come to the surgery, but who still very much want to use the on-line service. Should such a situation arise we will be very happy to look at individual people where there are such problems and come to a mutually agreeable arrangement. Anyone who is that ill or disabled to that degree is probably going to be well known to us anyway. |

CLOSE THIS POPUP Why do I have to do this, surely you know who I am. This can lead to difficult ground. There are over four thousand registered patients at Farndon Surgery, many are frequent visitors and some are well known to the staff. The problem is that four thousand people each trying to remember the names of three or four staff, have the advantage over three or four staff each trying to remember the names of four thousand patients. This tends to result in there being quite a lot of people who think that of course we must know who they are. When it comes to it though, the number of people we can put a name to with absolute certainty is rather less than the number who think we can. In most situations in the surgery, people tell us their names. As an example Lady walks up to reception, Says " Hello, Mrs Scrottle here to see the Nurse" Receptionist smiles and says " That's fine Mrs. Scrottle, just take a seat" and in a little while Mrs Scrottle will get called through. Over the next few days the receptionist will have this same brief exchange with two or three hundred other similar people. Ask the same receptionist the next week who is Mrs Scrottle and in all probabliity she will have no idea. However ask Mrs Scrottle and she may well say " but I was only there a few days ago, surely she knows who I am" So we really, really don't want to seem rude, but the only reliable way to do this is to ask everybody for ID. Otherwise the reception staff will have to decide who needs to show ID and who does not. That is not fair on staff or patients, and will result in embarrased staff having to ask people their names and embarrased patients being asked their names by staff they thought knew them. Before you can use the Farndon On-Line services you must first create a user account. To do this you need to visit the surgery and let reception know that you want to sign up for the On-Line service, you will need some form of photographic ID, such as your driving licence or passport. You will be given a letter that contains all you need to get going, including a unique PIN number and a practice identifying code. Irritating as it no doubt is, this does require you to visit the surgery in person, though there is no need to book an appointment, just come down, speak to any of the reception staff who will check your ID and give you your codes. We hope that you will understand that the reason for this is simply to ensure that the person we are allowing to access your confidential medical records, is in fact you. Were we to issue access codes to a person who just phoned and said they were you. When this person turned out to be your boss or your aggrieved ex-lover's husband, you would have fairly well justified cause for complaint!! This is a somewhat extreme example but hopefully you can see the point. As well as this there is the minor matter of the Data Protection Act and the NHS Systems "Code Of Connection". We are not trying to be awkward or difficult, we would just like to stay legal! |
