How to order a repeat

Repeat prescriptions can be ordered in person at reception or they can be ordered in writing using either the printed counterfoil of a previous prescription or with a note. Alternatively you may order on-line via the link above. This does require you to attend the surgery before the first order, in person to set up your password etc. We know it is a pain but we do need to be sure that it really is you asking to gain access to your records !

Written orders can be posted to the surgery, handed in at reception or
put in the collection box at Holt Post Office
. This is on the wall to the left of the service window, the orders are collected each day at lunchtime. We are also happy to accept repeat prescription requests by e-mail.

The repeat prescriptions are signed and ready for collection by 3:00 pm and can be collected any time after this.

No payment is needed to collect the repeat prescription from the surgery, however if you have to pay prescription charges then unfortunately you will have to pay the charge for each individual item, each month.

See further explanation of prescription charges and how you can reduce the cost if you are on regular medication .

There is a pilot scheme running where, on a patients request repeat prescriptions are being sent by e-mail to the pharmacy where the prescription is made up and ready for you to collect. Please speak to one of the reception staff for details of how to set up this scheme for long term regular medication.

What can be ordered as a repeat.

Not all medications are suitable for, or are intended for use as long term treatment. Some things like antibiotics are intended as a course of treatment that is then finished, whilst others such as tablets for blood pressure, are intended to be taken regularly over a long period of time. There may in fact be problems if long term medication is suddenly stopped.

When you see your Doctor and are prescribed treatment it is important that you understand the duration of the treatment before you leave the surgery. Are you being given a week's course of something? Or are you being started on a new tablet that is to be continued long term ? The Doctor will normally tell you this, however if it is not clear then please ask the Doctor whilst you are with her.

Any drug that is listed on the prescription counterfoil as a repeat item. If you do not have the counterfoil, then generally any drug that you have on a regular basis or items that you only need from time to time but which your Doctor has told you that you can have a further supply when needed, without needing to see a Doctor first.

If you are not sure if an item is available to you as a repeat check with the receptionist first.

It is unlikely that your Doctor would wish to continue a defined course of treatment beyond the intended end of the course without seeing you to assess your progress on the drug.

What can not be ordered as a repeat.

Any item not listed on your counterfoil as a repeat, or where it is not clearly recorded in our records that ongoing treatment was intended.

Any item you have not had before.

Contraceptive pills and HRT if you have not had a Blood Pressure check in the past year.

Items that you only need occasionally but where your condition should be checked by a Doctor or Nurse before each prescription. ( for example certain types of eye-drops.)

Any item if your treatment is overdue for review. Your review date is printed at the bottom of your prescription counterfoil. You do not necessarily need a special appointment for this. If you are seeing the Doctor anyway ask the Doctor and your review date can be reset and any required checks made whilst you are there. Alternatively most treatment reviews can be done by telephone. We simply need to know that your treatment is still doing the correct job, working well and that you have no problems with it. You do not need to be sitting in front of us to tell us this.
